Top Level Canon Pop Culture Reviews And Analysis
I’m Leila Hann, and I perform Top Level Canon liveblogs, reviews, and analyses of works of fiction of all kinds. My main niche so far has been animation, particularly of the kind produced in Japan, but I’ve also written my pieces on live action TV, movies, books, comics, and video games. I’ve also recently finished the complete works of HP Lovecraft.
I tend toward the Let’s Watch/Read/Play liveblog style, where I react to the text as I proceed through it (preferably blind). In most cases, I’ll follow up the running commentary with an analytical piece. These can be as short as a few paragraphs, or as long as a dozen-page article. I also tend to make a lot of really bad jokes. Commissioned reviews make up the brunt of what I do, but I update both of those projects at least once per week. Additionally, once per month I do an expedited review from a premium “fast lane” queue.
If you have something you’d like me to review, you can use this PayPal link to commission me or send the fee to leilaerev@gmail.com on Google Pay. Become a patron on Patreon, and you’ll get early access to all my output, as well as other benefits for higher tier patrons including discounted review fees. You can see what’s already commissioned and queued up on this page.
Here are my prices:
Basic Reviews: $40+(25n)
$40 is the overhead cost of a review, which by default includes about 11-13 hundred words.
Adding $25 to the price tag will increase the length of the review by another 11-13 hundred words, with no upward limit. For instance, if you want me to write five thousand words about something, that would be four units of text, or $115.
I will be employing my common sense when it comes to agreeing to succinct reviews for longer works, and I will be expecting you to do the same. For instance, I'm obviously not going to agree to watch ten anime episodes or read a full-length novel for a $40 bite-sized review. Talk to me about what you want, and we'll work out something that we both agree is reasonable.
My new style of reviews lends itself better to covering longer works (or more episodes of serialized works) at a time, and this pricing system better reflects that. If you want me to cover something very short like a Loony Tunes episode or a music video, it might be best to bundle a few such works together into a package.
I intend to keep the main queue at around its current length of one year.
The Fast Lane
The fast lane will work the same as it did before. There's a separate short queue for monthly fast lane slots, that cost one and a half times (150%) as much as the normal queue. $60 overhead and $37.50 for each extension.
Since I'm going to try to keep the main queue about one year long, I don't expect the fast lane to ever have more than 5-6 items in it at a time. If you're going to wait longer than six months anyway, then you might as well save money and wait a year.
Pedantic Ultra-High Excruciating Detail Autism Spectacular
Remember when I used to spend 6k words losing my shit over ten minutes' worth of RWBY? Well, I'm still willing to provide that kind of minute-by-minute liveblog reaction, but the amount of time it takes me requires additional compensation. For this, I will go back to basing prices on the length of the work. These reviews can also be put on the fast lane for 150% of the listed prices.
Video: $4 per minute of screentime (excluding intros and outros).
Prose: $1 per 100 words.
Comics: $2.50 per page.
Games: $5 per minute of average playtime (including cutscenes).
I am still transferring most of my existing work onto the site (including all of the Lovecraft stories, as well as multiple seasons’ worth of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, RWBY, and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood). This is going to take a while, but I plan to eventually consolidate everything onto this site. For now, all of my old stuff is accessible either on Patreon, or on the Sufficient Velocity web forum (Lovecraft, JoJo, and RWBY in previous threads). Keep in mind that I started doing this for free as a hobby, so my earlier stuff is not nearly up to my current standards of quality; I plan to heavily improve them when it comes time to copy them over.
